Sadly its devolving backwards
I have been a subscriber to the iPad version of MSL since fall 2012. Back then, eMagazines were still rather new and especially German magazines were very much behind in this field. So I was very positively surprised, impressed and happy about the American version of MSL being so well thought through, interactive and easy to navigate. Im a huge fan and although a German version of MSL is nowadays available as well, I always preferred the original one. At this point the magazine would have gotten five stars from me.
With the January 2014 issue the MSL iPad team got rid of the interactive cover, which I found very disappointing. I gave feedback on that, but Im not sure it was ever received. At that point it would have been fours stars from me.
Sadly the team changed the inner layout of the magazine with the April 2015 issue once more and not for the better. Where has all the interactive content gone?! And why are there ads on every other page now? Why are articles no longer together (flipping to the next page/over the next ad instead of scrolling down)?
The whole fun and enjoyment of reading this magazine have gone for me and I strongly question if theres any added value to this magazine left at all. For me its just another ePaper now and Ive the feeling its sadly developing backwards. Coming from a publishing background myself, I do understand the costs and time involved in this kind of product, but for me the MSL iPad version set an example for other ePublications. Im quite frankly sad that all the things I enjoyed so much about this product are gone. Therefore I can only rate this product with two stars now.
